Winfred's Amazing Journey
Winfred Val Woods was born on March 28, 1962 in Houston, Texas to Freddie Lee and Jerline Woods. He received Christ at an early age and was a proud member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Houston's historic Third Ward until the time of his death. Winfred attended Houston area schools; Bastian elementary, Pershing middle school and graduated from Jones High School in 1981. He is an Alumni of Texas Southern University where he received a full athletic scholarship for football.
He united in holy matrimony with his childhood friend Vernell Woods in 1986. The couple was bless with tow beautiful daughters Verdecia Winnetta Woods and Jillecia Woods.
Win, as his family affectionately called him, had a true zest for life and proudly served the Houston Independent School District for over 20 years as a roofing specialist. He never wasted one minute of the day, and remained active until the Lord called him home. He enjoyed outdoors and would always bring something tasty home from his latest fishing trip. He was also a horseman in every sense of the word, spending decades training and caring for horses, as well as, attending some of Southeast Texas's most popular trail rides. Win was always willing to lend a helping hand whether it was using his talents at roofing, cooking, advice, car repairs, or volunteering at his daughters daycare Blessing Academy ECC; he always made time for everyone.
Winfred is preceded in death by his loving father Freddie Lee Woods. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Vernell Jackson Woods; his daughters Verdecia Woods Jackson (Edrick) and Jillecia Woods; Mother Jerline Woods; Sister Neysa Ewing; Niece Brittney Ewing; Nephew Dorin Keith Ewing Jr. (Maricela); Greath Nephews Jeremiah and Mateo Ewing; Sister in law Valencia Jackson Clark (Eric); Brother in law John Jackson; Mother in law Vernell Jackson; God sister Maudy Roberts, and a host of family and friends.
I was so saddened to hear of the passing of my childhood friend. Win was a great man and was always very kind and caring to me and my family. My condolences to Ms Jerline and to Neysa and the rest of the family. I will also have good memories of my time with Win and the Woods family. Mr Freddie Lee was such a comedian and we drank coffee day and night.
Please know that you all have my prayers and deepest sympathies. Feel free to reach out to me if you all need anything.
Our trips to McAllen and Austin was fun and exciting. Talking about cars and "shooting for the stars". Appreciate your presence, Winn. I do believe it made the difference with you being with us. Thanks to the Woods family for sharing him with us. GOD bless and keep You.
