Nora Lee (Terry) Collette was born November 24, 1940, in Beaumont, Texas to the late John Terry Sr. and Rose (Guidry) Terry. Nora and her family moved to Anahuac, Texas when she was a young girl. Nora graduated from G. W. Carver School in Anahuac, Texas, she was the high school queen for two years, and she played on the basketball team. In addition, Nora studied at Texas Southern University.

Nora was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Martin Harold Collette Sr. on July 4, 1958 in Anahuac, Texas and from that union five children were born: Sherry (Frederick) Riles, Martin Harold (Linda) Collette Jr., Debra (Ernest) Sommerville, the late Lenora Gail Collette and Vicki (Thomas) Williams.

Nora & Harold lived in Dayton, TX. They also lived in Pleasantville, TX until they moved to Houston in 1963. They later moved to Seattle, WA in 1969. And, they returned back to Houston, TX in 1971.

Nora was an active and dedicated Member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church for over 40 years. She was a CCE Teacher, Member of the Parish Council, Eucharistic Minister, and served on several other committees. Nora was also Grand Lady of the Knights of Peter Claver Council 222. She helped organize and establish the Junior Daughters’ division on March 22, 1981, where 42 girls were initiated including her daughter Vicki. In addition, Nora held the position of Junior Daughter Counselor of the Knights of Peter Claver Council 222.

Nora retired from Texas Instruments with over 20 years of service. She was not one to sit at home and be bored, so she worked at Macy’s from 2000 to 2011. In her early years, Nora made clothes for her daughters. She was the representative caretaker for her sister Margaret. She loved making flower arrangements. And, she baked cakes for family and friends.

Nora was preceded in death by her loving husband Harold, her beautiful daughter Lenora Gail, two brothers, Walter and John, and her sister Margaret.

After a brief battle with the Alzheimer’s disease, our Lord and Savior called Nora Lee Collette home to her rest on Friday June 29, 2018.
Nora leaves behind to cherish the memories of her life, her four children; godchildren, Stephanie, Tangela Speech, Omar Jones and Allison Wells; sister Geraldine Terry; sister-in-laws Lou Hardy, Carlotta Terry, Pauline Harrison and Louise Laday; brother-in-law Charles (Pertha) Collette; ten grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends.

Nora will be remembered for her beautiful smile and a twinkle in her eyes.
